Mondel Brakes – Industrial Shoe and Thruster Brakes for Overhead Cranes

Magnetek can furnish standard and custom engineered Mondel Brakes to meet the requirements of your application. Our engineers design brakes with simple brake release designs, unique torque or dimensional requirements, and brakes that meet specific environmental considerations. Let one of Ergonomic Partners crane engineers help size the Mondel Brake that will help improve your cranes performance.

Mondel 200s Hi-Tork Industrial Duty Shoe Brakes

Magnetek's heavy-duty, cost effective brakes are quickly becoming the industry leader. Mondel's General Purpose and Industrial Shoe Brakes are designed with a minimum of moving parts. This provides and extremely reliable range of brakes that are easy to install, adjust and maintain. There are three different models of the 200S brakes:

  • Type MST - Electric Thruster
  • Type MSA – DC Magnet
  • Type MSH – Hyraulic

The MST thruster brake has several features and options:

  • Fast Response – standard units 2,000 cycles per hour
  • Spring Applied and Electronic Release
  • Class F Insulation
  • Optional Automatic Adjustment (AA) - automatically compensates for lining wear; eliminates time required to manually adjust linkages for brake shoe lining wear.
  • Optional Automatic Equalization (AE) – automatically equalizes and maintains running shoe clearance which provides balanced braking and equal brake pad wear.
  • Optional external torque spring for bridge and trolley motion.

Mondel 300M Hi-tork Mill Duty Shoe Brakes

Magnetek's AIST-NEMA rated mill duty brakes are designed for steel mill and other harsh environments. The 300M's advanced design features combined with fabricated steel construction make this range of brakes suitable for applications requiring reliable braking with minimal maintenance and downtime. These brakes are best suited for steel mills, port cranes, shipyard cranes, and large gantry cranes. There are three types of 300M Brakes:

  • Type MBT – Thruster
  • Type MBE – DC Magnet
  • Type MBM – Hydraulic

The MST and MBT thruster brake has several features and options:

  • Fast Response – standard units 2,000 cycles per hour
  • Spring Applied and Electronic Release
  • Class F Insulation
  • Optional Automatic Adjustment (AA) - automatically compensates for lining wear; eliminates time required to manually adjust linkages for brake shoe lining wear.
  • Optional Automatic Equalization (AE) – automatically equalizes and maintains running shoe clearance which provides balanced braking and equal brake pad wear.
  • Optional external torque spring for bridge and trolley motion.
  • Braketronic Control Capable

Mondel 400D Heavy Duty Disc Brakes

Magnetek 400D heavy duty disc brakes are designed for high speed, high performance applications. They are manufactured from materials selected to optimize performance and serviceability for the most demanding applications. There are two types available:

  • Type SDT - conform to container and industry ratings and dimensions
  • Type ADT – Conform to AIST ratings and dimensions

The 400D has several features and options:

  • Spring applied – electrically released
  • Sintered metal friction pads on quick replacement liners
  • Stainless steel pivot pins running in self-lubricating bushings
  • Optional external torque spring with calibrated indicator
  • Externally adjustable stepless time delays in both directions.

Braketronic Systems – "Brake by Wire"

Magneteks Braketronic Controller provides variable torque control to a Mondel Thruster Shoe or Disc Brake. By utilizing a Braketronic unit, single or multiple brakes can be proportionally controlled by a foot pedal, master switch, or radio control. The controller can also be configured to apply the brakes by pre-programmed ramping initiated by the use of a single-step control device. The Braketronic is ideal for replacing existing hydraulic systems and provides a fail-safe emergency braking for overhead crane applications.

The Braketronic System has several features and options:

  • Variable torque brake performance controlled by foot pedal or radio.
  • Pre-programmed ramping controlled by push-buttons
  • Control single or multiple brakes
  • Suitable for industrial or mill duty applications.
  • Optional enclosure heaters for low ambient temperatures
