Static Dissipative ESD Mats and Grounding Kits

 

ESD Matting is designed to drain the Electro Static charge from items placed on the mat. ESD mats are used to prevent operator fatigue are typically made from rubber. The ESD floor mats have a diamond plate texture that improves traction. Most of these floor mats are at least 1/2" think and are designed to reduce stress in operators legs. Our ESD matting typically comes in black and gray in order to hide dirt.

ESD Mats requires a grounding kit. Our ESD grounding kits include a heel grounder, snap studs, and ground cords, allowing for the unit to safely be run to ground on any standard outlet.

Static electricity occurs because of the general diffusive principle in nature.  Essentially, things try to balance out to equal distribution. If you have a lot of negative charge in one place and a lack of negative charge in another, it will eventually discharge in an attempt to equalize the charges. For example, if you were walking on an insulated floor, the repeated contact could cause your body to build a negative charge. Because a static charge is in search of an electrical ground, it could try to dissipate that negative energy through something you touch.

These discharges can destroy sophisticated electrical components. Because the charges are typically small, this usually shows up as latent damage. Essentially, your electrical components slowly develop glitches until they ultimately fail. ESD grounding kits are used to dissipate these charges.
